THE DUST OFF TIMES

 New Bribie Island Bridge

The Queensland Government is progressing the Bribie Island Bridge Upgrade to improve safety, capacity, reliability, and resilience for the only road connection between Bribie Island and the mainland. The project is currently in the detailed design phase and builds on previous planning, technical investigations, and community consultation undertaken during development of the business case.

The upgrade includes a new 4-lane bridge immediately north of the existing bridge, with 2 traffic lanes in each direction. The existing bridge will be retained and repurposed as a dedicated active transport connection for bicycle riders, pedestrians, and users of mobility devices.

Retaining the existing bridge will preserve an important transport asset. The new bridge will increase traffic capacity and improve reliability, resilience, and emergency access between Bribie Island and the mainland.

The project also includes widening Caboolture–Bribie Island Road to 4 lanes between Bestmann Road East and Benabrow Avenue, realigning the Sylvan Beach Esplanade intersection and improving active transport connections on Bribie Island and the mainland.
